Genoa fell to their third defeat in a row, dropping their first points at home in 2012 as they were edged out by Chievo.

Cyril Thereau scored the winner in the 30th minute to lift the Flying Donkeys away from danger and level on points with their hosts, whose coach Pasquale Marino's job is now hanging in the balance.

The visitors played a disciplined game, deserving their win against a Genoa side who lacked any clear identity as they lost their 12th game of the season.

Genoa had won their last three home games by the same 3-2 scoreline with the fans getting used to goals at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

However, Chievo had clearly done their homework and frustrated the home side with a strong defensive display.

This win offsets a 2-0 loss to Napoli earlier in the week and leaves the Flying Donkeys at 30 points, 9 points above the relegation battles.

Chievo's next match is a home affair against Cesena next Sunday. A home win here will nearly ensure Chievo's place in Serie A next season.
