A lackluster week for our Chievo team. Two home losses coupled with an away win at Novara rounded out a ho-hum week.
The first match was a home affair against Lazio that remained close until the last 10 minutes when Miroslav Klose scored two late goals to seal Chievo's fate with a 0-3 win.
Things brightened up at Novara as Sergio Pellissier struck early and Cyril Thereau added to the lead with 15 minutes left. However a quick goal a minute later from Novara on a run-and-gun counter left the Chievo fans on pins and needles the last 10 minutes or so. Happily nothing dire happened and Chievo could go off the pitch with a 1-2 away win on Thursday night.
Sunday's match in Verona against a side that always gives Chievo fits, Parma, was a sad affair with an own-goal by Luciano spelling defeat. The 1-2 result at home wasn't a very flattering ending to a Sunday with ice-cold temperatures in Italy.
This leaves Chievo at 27 points, tied with Cagliari and Parma. This puts them in 13th place; 10 points above the relegation battle.
On Monday Chievo has an away game in Napoli against a solid contender for the Serie A crown.
