Narrow home win boosts Chievo spirits

After a terrible October, Chievo climbed away from the relegation zone with a narrow win over Fiorentina as the visitors' struggles away from Florence continued.

Luca Rigoni's 65th-minute strike earned Chievo the points that carry them up to 14th place, level on points with Fiorentina, who are yet to win away from home this season.

It was nothing more than Chievo deserved as they managed to keep the Viola on the back foot for most of the match.
Davide Moscardelli's dangerous shots kept the Fiorentina keeper on his toes and he should have scored right after the half time restarted.

But the breakthrough came in the 65th minute with Davide Madelli setting up Rigoni for a close-range finish.

Jovetic tried to respond for Fiorentina but watched his shot drift inches wide in the 74th minute.

And it was Chievo who then went closest to scoring again with Marco Andreolli's shooting just wide in injury time.

This win eases Chievo's position in Serie A with a large group at 12 or 13 points. Let's hope that November is a brighter month for Chievo's fortunes than the Halloween-October trials. Chievo's next match is an away affair at Catania, who were drilled by AC Milan today. They'll be looking for revenge and are always tough on their home turf.
